No Hogs today

As the title says no hogs today but still had a great time out in the field. As you all know from reading this Blog this was my 1st time hunting behind dogs for hogs. Overall I had a very enjoyable time and learned quite a bit. I found it interesting how the bay dogs worked a pattern and sadly was not able to see the catch dogs at work. I am hopeing the next chance I get I will be able to see the powerful dogs work as well as i have heard of them working.

I am going to be using a K-Bar knife with a Springfield 45 as back up :> Hopefully my nerves will handle using the knife but i will not know that untill the time comes. Just a little over 3 weeks till Goose and Dove seasons.

Would like to say thanks to.....

I would like to say thanks to who ever was the nice person who took the CB out of my truck. I hope you have many years out of it. Yes it is true some one was nice enuff to steal the CB out of my hunting truck, Smart as they were they left over $2000 worth of hunting gear that was in it and only took a $100 CB from Wal-Mart. But smart person that i am i have the serial number for it and have alerted the police and pawn shops in my area so hope to see the CB back soon and someone in jail. If they don;t go to jail hope they move :> Still counting down the days till hunting season.

Getting ready

Been a little to hot to go hunting for d'hogs and hunting season is almost a month away so i have been working on the old hunt truck. People have laughed about it, made jokes about it, and have said many not nice things about it. All i can say is that it has never been stuck, battery has never gone dead in the field, but has pulled people out and jump started the newer trucks.

I have been asked to post info about the guns and rounds i use for pig hunting, So far all i have used to get the pigs is a 30.06 Rem 700 with 170 grain rounds. Next time i go out i will be using a .223 with wolf ammo. Will advise you on how this works but frist i have to get through Goose and dove season then Deer season :> Hunting starts Sept 1.

Oh and the truck is a 1985 nissan hardbody with toyota rear leaf springs and dry rotted tires i got for free :>

Just an update

Thought I would update and let you all know what has been going on. I have not had the chance to go hunting in a bit but others who hunt the same land that I do have killed 3 pigs in the last month. I am hopeing to go out one night/morning with the dogs and see how it is to hunt wild pigs that way. With the weather being as hot as it is I would guess the pigs are moving late at night to early morning. Can't wait to test this theroy.

No Luck

Went out hunting on the 22nd of March and only saw where the pigs had been. Was told by one of the farm hands that I had missed them by about 3 days. They saw around 40 pigs just walk across the field like they owned the place. Oh well I will get them. :>

Slow hunting

Sorry I haven't updated sooner but besides real life keeping me from hunting, when I have gone out did not see any pigs to hunt. One thing that I hunted for the frist time this year was geese and was lucky enough to get two. Below is a photo of one of the ones I got. Will hunt these harder next year now that I know how good they are. Hope everyone has a great Easter and will let you know if the hunt tommrow turns up anything.

First real snow

Well we finally had our first real snow fall. Hopefully it will help on the hunt today.
If anything I will be able to see if there is any fresh activity around the feeder or signs in general. Also finally found a place where I can get Sow in Heat and other scents to aid in the hunt. http://www.razorbackoutfitters.com/ has a great on line store and eBay store with everything hog hunting you could need. I am almost certain that I will be getting a lot more stuff from this great site to aid in the hog removal. Will let everyone know how well it works after it arrives, and then hopefully will be able to get some Black Gold. That is all for now.

Well I didn't give up hunting...

but i have put it on hold for a little bit. one reason is that deer season ended, and the second reason is that nothing is moving right now. going to have to give the pigs a break from hunting so they feel safer and are moving more. some good news i now have full hunting rights on one of the farms i pig hunt and permission to replace the poor mans gate with a real one. I also need to look in to getting a good cheep freezer or at least another fridge. well that is all for this post will try to update a little more often
